- A sideboard has one job — to hold everything you need while looking like it was never asked to. The Ethnicraft PI sideboard does considerably more than that. Part of the Polished Imperfect collection designed by Alain van Havre, the PI sideboard honours nature's design by keeping the strength, curves and lines of the wood as nature intended.

Each PI item is finished by hand to ensure the individual character of the wood is respected rather than standardised. Push-open doors, no visible handles, one adjustable shelf per compartment and a considered depth of 45cm. Available in two wood types — oiled European oak and dark brown stained brushed teak — across three sizes from 119cm to 230cm.

Ethnicraft PI Sideboard — FAQs

What wood types is the Ethnicraft PI sideboard available in?

The PI sideboard is available in two wood types. The oak version is built from European oak sourced and processed in Serbia, with a natural oiled finish. The teak version is built from solid teak sourced from Indonesia, dark brown stained, brushed and finished with a water-based varnish. Please contact us to confirm current availability of both versions before ordering.

What is the difference between the oak and teak versions?

The oak version carries a natural oiled finish in a lighter warm tone — closer to the natural colour of the wood. The teak version is dark brown stained and brushed, giving a richer, deeper character with more contrast in the grain. Wood samples are available in our Cork showroom if you would like to compare both before ordering.

What sizes does the Ethnicraft PI sideboard come in?

The PI sideboard is available in three sizes — 2 door at 119cm, 3 door at 174 cm and 4 door at 230 cm. All three share the same depth of 45cm and height of 83 cm, with one adjustable shelf per compartment carrying a max load of 20kg. Please contact us to confirm current size availability before ordering.

How do the doors open on the Ethnicraft PI sideboard?

The PI sideboard features push-open doors — press the door front and it releases cleanly with no handle required. This keeps the front face of the sideboard clean and uninterrupted, consistent with the Polished Imperfect collection's organic aesthetic.

Does the Ethnicraft PI sideboard require assembly?

No. The PI sideboard arrives fully assembled and ready to position. Anti-tipping hardware is included with pre-drilled holes. Given the weight — from 50kg for the oak 2-door up to 89kg for the oak 4-door — please ensure you have help available on delivery day.

Does the Ethnicraft PI sideboard need to be secured to the wall?

Anti-tipping hardware is included as standard and we recommend fitting it, particularly in homes with children. Feel free to contact our team to know more about the free assembly service.

Is the teak version sustainably sourced?

Yes. The teak used in the PI sideboard is sourced from Indonesia and carries SVLK certification — the Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System — confirming the timber has been legally and responsibly harvested.

What is the lead time for the Ethnicraft PI sideboard?

The PI sideboard carries a 4–6 week lead time. Please contact us to confirm current availability and expected delivery window before ordering.

Can I see the Ethnicraft PI sideboard in person in Ireland?

Yes. We have it currently on display in our Cork showroom (only oak). Wood and finish samples are available in store so you can compare the oiled oak and dark brown teak finishes before committing to an order. We also offer free video consultations if you are based outside Cork.

Does the Ethnicraft PI sideboard pair with other PI collection pieces?

Yes. The Polished Imperfect collection covers a full range of living and bedroom furniture including the PI coffee table, PI bed and PI bedside table. Contact us for advice on combining pieces from the PI range for a cohesive look.

Is the Ethnicraft PI sideboard suitable for a dining room, hallway or living room?

Yes. The clean front profile, push-open doors and choice of oak or teak finish make the PI sideboard versatile across multiple room settings — dining room, hallway, living room or bedroom.

How to Care for Your Ethnicraft PI Sideboard

Care depends on the wood type:

Care Guide

For regular dusting use a dry cloth. For cleaning, or in case of a spill, use a damp cloth and natural soap. Dry with a soft clean cloth. Do not use abrasive products. We always recommend using coasters, mousepads, or placemats on surfaces as heat and extreme repetitive daily use can damage the finish.
