How to effortlessly pair classical styles with unique colourful pieces like Sharma Designers.

A lakeside Nagpur farmhouse by Ishita Sharma Designs.
How to achieve a classical yet sleek aesthetic? Sharma has an eye for colour palettes and complementing wood tones. Some of us fear clashing with woods, but I'm here to tell you -
embrace colour mixing as an expressive journey.
This space works because it does not shy away from an expressive palette. As we embrace the natural undertones of the wood we can make colour work harmoniously. This makes the space grounded in warmth and depth.
Choosing deep warm wood stains create the foundation for playful colour mixing. Such as this design with a focus on the wooden chairs and woven unit. This is translated across both the dining and living rooms. The playful pastel palette, divides yet connects the space simultaneously. A rug with a complementing arm chair is added to strengthen the contrasting hues of the aqua blue next to the wood. Simple voile curtains drape behind to retain simplicity with a neutral painted wall. Focus is kept on the rustic tones of wood so that colour is enhanced.
This is what we chose from our collection as direct inspiration from Sharma:

How to style rich colours with intense wood - a peek into Fendi.

The Petit Salon of Villa Medici renovated, designed by Fendi’s Artistic Directors Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones.
How do we style deep colours? This Fendi interior only works so eclectically because it leans confidently into these strong foundations of burnt sienna, amber, ochre and deep walnut. To balance this without creating clash we must have softer neutrals, on the floor for example. These hues sit close together on the color spectrum, creating harmony.
The intensity of a palette like this is also balanced by texture - velour, suede, smooth textiles. This establishes a sense of depth and richness. In warm and natural light, this intensifies the depth of cozy colours and dark wood.
Integrating older statement pieces, a bookshelf, into modern designs, such as the sofa, works as many modular designs have softer lines - which do not compete with antique pieces.
Repetition of colour and texture ensures this palette is complimented, not conflicted.

How to get a rustic look like Armani's dining area.

Dining area of Giorgio Armani’s home in Saint-Tropez, designed by Armani himself.
How do we achieve a vintage yet simple style? In Armani's space, we can clearly see that the foliage and natural light are the core components in this room. While simple, the tones of wood, rugs and decor play a crucial role.
Notice how Armani has chosen a deep colour wood, rich in tones and texture in order not to wash out the woods natural beauty. In a bright room such as this, it is important we choose darker wood tones that will not be consumed by the light, but instead - accentuated.
To achieve this, a base of neutral rugs and curtains make sure the richness of the wood and colourful decor encapsulate the atmosphere. With green decor, we are hinting to the outside landscape beyond the glass. The stain of the table and chairs provide a rustic contrast that falls on the same colour palette of the rug and curtains.
Although this is a blog of rich colour and tones, this is a suitable example of how the colour of wood can bring that exact richness we are looking for.
